My motto in life is to “Work Hard, Play Harder” and I try each day to accomplish both. I love teaching at Soldier Hollow as I consider myself a life-long learner. I enjoy living in the Heber Valley and am often out hiking waterfalls and picnicking at Deer Creek.
Philosophy: I am a huge believer of place-based and experiential education and love our focus and charter. I have years of experience in teaching all grades, ages, and levels, and look forward to meeting your child’s needs as best I can through a conscious effort to differentiated instruction. My ultimate goal is to provide an environment where all students thrive and develop a greater love for learning!

Third grade is an exciting year for your student. There are important skills and concepts that will be learned as part of the third grade curriculum. These include reading to learn as opposed to learning to read, multiplication, division, writing as a process, and cursive handwriting. Children will be encouraged to read a wide variety of books, and approach their writing in multiple ways. Most importantly, however, I hope to make this school year a positive, useful, and memorable learning experience for your child – – not only academically, but also in understanding how to get along with others, make decisions, and feel successful as an individual.

Education: Master degree in Architecture from the Slovak University of Technology

Certifications: Professional Educator License Level 1 APT, Elementary Education K-6

Interests: Spending time with my family, alpine skiing (champion of Slovakia in downhill), cross country skiing, hiking, biking, traveling, photography, creative arts

Philosophy: Every person contains the capacities of thinking, feeling and willing, symbolized by the head, heart and hands. While traditional schools focus almost exclusively on the first, I believe the three capacities have to be in balance to educate the whole child. Our school is unique not because what we teach, but how we teach. I guide the students to be curious about the world about them. Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn. The need for imagination, a sense of truth and a feeling of responsibility are important forces of education. Learning through experience prepares children to successfully meet the challenges of the changing world.

Fifth Grade Teacher

Hometown: Eagar Arizona

Education: Bachelor of Science from Utah Valley University 2011. Certificate of Elementary Education

Experience: I taught one year of 4th grade and 2 years of 5th grade at Meadow Elementary in Lehi, and 3 years of 5th grade at Dry Creek Elementary in Lehi

Interests: I love the outdoors and Utah’s beautiful mountains. I love to hike just about anywhere, love to ski with my husband Brent and kids, biking when I get the chance, and recently have gotten into horseback riding after my daughter and I purchased 3 gaited Morgan horses. We recently relocated here in the beautiful city of Charleston when we bought a hobby ranch for our horses and dogs. We acquired chickens and barn cats and feel like we own a small farm now. I love to read and decorate and host parties. My daughter recently got married and we had quite the party here in Charleston on our ranch we call Heartland Ranch. My kids are Tyler, Ryan, and his wife Kalie and my grandbaby June, (3 months), Jamilyn, and her husband Brennan and Kaylee, and her soon to be husband Braden.

Philosophy: I think we should learn all of our life and love the acronym OWLS: Outstanding Wise Learners for Life. Learning should be fun, relative, hands-on and students should feel ownership of their own learning. I strive to help students feel that way and have high expectations of my students. I once heard that students who were expected to do well, taught to be self reliant and have duties and encouraged to be good citizens were almost always successful in school and life. I truly believe this is a big component to student success. One other thing I recently read was that one of the biggest things parents can do to insure success of their children, is to read to them from day 1 and instill a love of reading. I teach language arts and I have a strong belief in reading. I am really excited to be a part of the Soldier Hollow Family and look forward to a great school year.
